City Electrical Factors Ltd (CEF) has published its Sustainability & Social Value Impact Report 2024, outlining the company’s progress towards a more sustainable future and the goals it is striving to achieve.
The report highlights how CEF’s actions contribute to the green transition, elevate community engagement, and nurture its own teams. Initiatives span carbon reduction, workforce development, and ethical supply chain practices across three pillars: Protect the World, Nurture Our People, and Enhance Communities.
Chris Ashworth, CEF CEO, said: “We’ve been a leader in our sector for more than 73 years. To lead us through the challenges of today, it’s imperative that we focus on the needs of people, the planet and our communities, enabling CEF to become a force for good.”
CEF’s achievements for 2024 include:
Protecting the World
- EcoVadis progress: The supply chain strategy is driving results. In 2023, 72% of our suppliers by spend were rated on their sustainability performance via EcoVadis.
- Carbon goals: With a formal commitment to net-zero by 2040, CEF is taking science-backed steps to reduce emissions across all scopes.
- Green fleet expansion: Electric vehicles now make up 35% of the company fleet, up from just 3% in 2022. This includes 17 electric vans already in use, with mileage increasing by over 400% year-on-year.
Nurturing Our People
- MyPath program: This leadership initiative ensures every branch manager has the tools to grow and support their teams. Over the past year, CEF has created tailored development plans and opened meaningful conversations to nurture leadership at every level.
- Health & wellbeing: The MyWellbeing platform, offers mental, physical, and financial wellbeing resources for all team members. This is alongside Culture Catch Ups, which empower staff to share feedback and shape a better workplace.
Enhancing Communities
- Macmillan partnership: Since 2017, CEF has raised more than £800,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, putting the company on track to hit £1 million by 2024.
- Upskilling electricians: Through tailored training programs, CEF has empowered 348 customers to confidently work with solar, energy storage, and heat pump technologies, helping bridge the UK’s green skills gap.
