12 Apr Evinox Energy joins fruit box scheme and plants trees in Malawi
Evinox Energy have planted 33 trees in Malawi in six months by using an office fruit basket scheme.
Under the Fruitful Office initiative, businesses select a fruit basket for delivery to their office and when staff have enjoyed the produce, the empty basket is replaced with a new one.
For every basket sold, Fruitful Office plants a fruit tree in Malawi, south east Africa. Evinox Energy have contributed to 24 trees being planted between January and March this year, alone.
The company, who have been using Fruitful Office since October 2022, said: “The Fruitful Office baskets are a fantastic benefit to offer staff as it is delivered to our door and encourages healthy eating, improving staff wellbeing and making staff feel more valued.
“We love the fact that for every fruit basket we consume, Fruitful Office plant one fruit tree in Malawi. Working with the UK charity RIPPLE Africa, the trees are grown by schools, households and farms, and larger farm cooperatives plant 20-30,000 seedlings in nursery each year.
“The tree planting benefits poorer Malawian families by providing firewood from quick growing senna siamea trees and fruit trees such as guava and papaya for their own consumption and, in some cases, income generation.
“Seeds and tubes are provided and, in some cases, some equipment. Training is given, and there is constant monitoring during the year to ensure that as many tree seedlings as possible are ready for planting out in the rainy season. The tree seedlings are then planted out in orchards, woodlots and around household perimeters, and advice is given to provide the best ongoing care for the trees.”
