Lamppost EV chargers to be installed in Chessington

More than 100 lamp column chargers for electric vehicles are to be installed across the borough this summer.

Chessington locations include outside Charles Lesser House in Hereford Way, and two in Ripon Gardens. It follows the installation of two EV points outside Unit 50, Barwell Business Park (pictured), with more on the way.

Kingston Council has teamed up with JoJu Charging to provide the network which will use the infrastructure of existing lamp columns and allow users to charge their electric or hybrid vehicle by plugging a standard charging cable into the column itself.

JoJu Charging and their installation partner, FM Conway have identified suitable locations based largely on resident requests following a 2020 consultation led by Kingston Council.

The charge points will cost 24p per kWh and be accessible through a variety of mobile phone apps, Near Field Communication (NFC) or by scanning a QR code on the side of the charging point.

The charge points are being installed with TfL Financial Assistance from London’s Go Ultra Low Cities Scheme, which is managed by London Councils, Transport for London and supported by the Mayor of London, on behalf of the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.
