Rose Theatre receives culture grant as it urges people to back the #HereForCulture movement

The Rose Theatre has received a Culture Recovery Fund: Emergency Resource Support grant to support its work after COVID-19.

The funds from The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and Arts Council England are for culturally significant organisations that were financially sustainable before COVID-19.

Going forward, The Rose is urging communities to show their support for culture and share the #HereForCulture tag on social media. #HereForCulture is a movement uniting the public, government and cultural organisations in support of our fantastic cinemas, theatres, music venues, museums, galleries and heritage.

Robert O’Dowd, Rose Theatre Chief Executive, said: “This grant is vital to our continuing operations and is crucial to our putting on Rose Original shows with our producing partners. Bringing back homegrown drama has enabled us to recapture audiences and support the brilliant creative and freelance teams who work alongside our staff to deliver inspiring and entertaining work. All of us at the Rose greatly appreciate this award from the Culture Recovery Fund: Emergency Resource Support Fund.”

Angellica Bell, Board member, Kingston Theatre Trust, added: “As a Board member of Kingston Theatre Trust, I know how hard our team has worked to sustain the theatre during the pandemic. The Rose enjoys a reputation as both a well-respected producing house and a vibrant community arts hub for Kingston and south west London. We are committed to welcoming new, diverse audience members to the theatre, and this grant helps us to create work that will entice both first time and returning theatregoers to visit the Rose.”
